Dust Mites Weaken Barrier Against Other Germs?
As you know, we here at Halo are always looking for interesting articles to share with you about the issues that effect you. Millions of people are affected by dust mite allergies, but who knew that the allergens dust mites leave behind might weaken you skin's natural defense against other germs?

A new study says just that. Give it a read.
Ridding Your Home of Dust Mites
Another great article out there about the importance of ridding your house of dust mites was just brought to my attention to post here. A lot of great information from people who know.

Weathering the Storm
We hope everyone had a fantastic and romantic Valentine's Day! In the meantime here at Halo, we have been gearing up for spring allergy season and came across a pretty good article:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/health/5548476.html
The general concensus by the doctors featured in this article is that people should weather their symptoms by taking medications and participating in certain practices (such as using a neti pot, etc) instead of trying to move away and/or totally eliminate all of the allergens in their lives. The fact is, no matter where you go, the threat of allergies is eminent. Short of living in a bubble, we can all find comfort and enjoy life with the right combinations of medications, shots and nasal inhalants.
The Beauty and the Beast
We here in North Carolina have had a wet winter and from our friends around the country, it seems that rainy, wet winters have been a trend. I came across an article today that talks about the beautiful benefits of having a wet winter (a great start for bulbs and wild flowers) but the beastly situation it puts allergy and asthma sufferers in with more mold and pollen to deal with.

Spring Cleaning Cautions
As a follow-up to my previous post, I thought I'd add another post about the precautions you should be taking when spring cleaning as well. Some chemicals and htei combinations can be dangerous and some some things just require the usual attention.
Check out the following article from a real germ specialist.

Flu Outbreak in Kentucky
An interesting story came out of Kentucky this week about a potential flu and cold outbreak in a few Kentucky school systems. One system has been closed down for the week supposedly and one will reopen today in the wake of a sort of flu epidemic a few connected towns.
Last year flu season peaked in late February, early March, so keep in mind all of the precautionary measures you can take to keep your family from getting sick. Wash your hands, don't share utensils, take your vitamins...and buy a Halo!
